JOIKUSPOT GOES LINUX
Press Release, Barcelona, Spain
Joikusoft announces the next wave of mobile WiFi Tethering by extending JoikuSpot Mobile 3G HotSpotting to new Linux based Maemo devices from Nokia.
JoikuSpot is world’s most used and popular solution for on-demand mobile WiFi internet and mobile 3G HotSpotting. During 2009, more than 5 million mobile internet experiences were made via JoikuSpotting, and the overall JoikuSpot user base grew to over 500.000 actual JoikuSpotters. Altogether this resulted into more than 100 Million Megabytes of mobile data consumption across more than 200 countries and 750 operator networks worldwide. Average global JoikuSpot internet consumption grew from 8 Mb to 22 Mb per JoikuSpot internet session, which speaks to the improvement in 3G operator network qualities in 2009.
Purnima Kochikar, VP of Forum Nokia, states: ”Nokia has worked with Joikusoft many years to produce easy mobile internet for anyone via Nokia phones. JoikuSpot is now embedded in many Nokia devices enabling WiFi access to the Internet with the simple click of a button. The JoikuSpot experience created for the Nokia N900 surpasses anything seen before.”
Tom Ojala, CEO and Founder of Joikusoft, adds: “Nokia Maemo platform allows the most speedy and easy internet connection via JoikuSpotting. Coupled with intuitive touch-user interface that Nokia N900 has, the user experience for mobile internet has now become “1 click”. The Nokia N900 takes mobile internet to a totally new level. Nokia N900 owners can now simply go and make their N900 a wireless “MiFi” modem with a simple download!”
The new JoikuSpot Linux Edition contains enriched features such as Speed Measurement to allow users to accurately see their mobile internet connection speed. Users see exactly the mobile data speed they get with their mobile broadband subscription.
JoikuSpot is designed to be End-to-End and Operator friendly, and adds to the Operator 3G data ARPU. Solution allows Operator measurement of JoikuSpot user profile and data traffic volumes, and produces graphical real-time reports of actual mobile broadband usage from JoikuSpotting. In addition, roaming detection, IMSI range restrictions per operator definition, server originated user updates and full operator branding and feature customization may be applied. More than 30% of JoikuSpot users upgrade to flat rate mobile data with their operator after starting to use JoikuSpot for mobile Internet. Joikusoft has already rolled out 6 operator-branded solutions for mobile 3G WiFi Tethering, and comes pre-loaded in newer Nokia devices such as N97 and N97 Mini. The JoikuSpot experience is now extended to include Nokia Maemo devices.
The solution comes with full internet security and internet connection stabilizer in moving contexts. JoikuSpot saves users money by simply using their mobile phone as a 3G WiFi modem for internet access. In a way, JoikuSpot turns the user’s mobile phone into a wireless MiFi, USB dongle or a HotSpot.
JoikuSpot Linux Edition launches today as FREE Beta, available from JOIKU community web site www.joiku.com, and will soon be added to Nokia Ovi Store. Production release will follow shortly.

Joikusoft announces JoikuBoost; World’s First Multiplexing WiFi Tethering software for Smartphones
Joikusoft, the creator of the world’s most popular WiFi Tethering software JoikuSpot, today announced a new innovative software solution called JoikuBoost, which enhances the mobile internet connection speed of JoikuBoost-enabled devices.
JoikuBoost improves mobile internet connection speed by wirelessly combining 3G data connections between multiple mobile phones in multiple operator 3G networks. The actual internet speed multiplies as the data bits transported in a JoikuBoost WiFi network simultaneously flow through multiple operator 3G networks.
JoikuBoost bases on a new communications protocol developed by Joikusoft.
JoikuBoost looks for other JoikuBoost users within close proximity. With user permission, JoikuBoost aggregates the 3G data connections over WiFi and creates a larger, unified and shared bit pipe. Multiple JoikuBoost-enabled phones are able to join and create WiFi Share Hubs, providing the ability to create personal 4G Wifi networks over 3G with friends and associates, meanwhile forming an internet connection which boost the mobile internet user experience to a totally new level.
Nokia has JoikuBoost software installed on many of smartphones. Nokia currently offers Joikusoft’s JoikuSpot Premium software as a preload on Nokia N97 and N97 Mini touch screen smartphones.
“JoikuBoost builds on JoikuSpot innovation, now allowing Nokia phone users to share more 3G with one another, and enjoy surfing the web at vastly higher speeds”, stated Sixten Sandstrom, director of partnerships and business development at Nokia. “Joikusoft software complements the powerful capabilities Nokia designs into its mobile devices.”
“The advanced 3G WiFi sharing capabilities of Nokia smartphones will particularily benefit from JoikuBoost due to new JoikuBoost 3G multiplexing protocol”, commented Tom Ojala, Chairman of the Board and a founder of JoikuSoft.
Lasse Mäki, CEO and founder of Joikusoft added: “JoikuBoost solves the radio interface limitation impacting the speed of mobile data transmissions today. By multiplexing various mobile data connections into one larger and unified bit pipe, JoikuBoost multiplies the actual mobile internet speed in operator networks.”
Beta Edition of JoikuBoost is available for free download through Joiku community site at www.joiku.com. The site also hosts an online discussion forum and help facility for JoikuBoost. Joikusoft welcomes beta user feedback of JoikuBoost for the final development phases of JoikuBoost to model actual use cases and final feature set.

Joikusoft announces JoikuMetrix solution for 3G Speed measurement
Joikusoft announces JoikuMetrix 3G Speed measurement and analysis solution for Operators.
DNA Operator from Finland announces that it has taken the JoikuMetrix solution in use first in the world.
The solution was developed to give subscription-specific statistics on the data transfer speeds in the operator 3G networks, in order to facilitate the provision of optimised trouble-free data connections to operator customers.
"JoikuMetrix measures data transfer throughput, i.e. the connection speed experienced by the customer, and produces a report enabling the software main user and subscription user to ascertain the connection speed of the base station serving the subscription at the time of measurement", explains Timo Varsila, Director, Products and Content, DNA Ltd.
The software, which can be installed in a mobile phone and USB modem, a.k.a. a ‘Mokkula’, improves the transparency of mobile communications network service capacity and contributes to pinpointing development needs, for instance.
"JoikuMetrix is particularly intended for operators who wish to develop their 3G network to the best possible level in terms of customers’ user experience. Naturally, the product can also be used for other purposes, for instance as a tool in various error analysis situations", comments Tom Ojala, Chairman of the Board and one of Joikusoft’s founders.
JoikuMetrix by Joikusoft is available for network operators today. However, DNA holds exclusive rights to it in Finland. For more information, contact us at metrix(at)joikusoft.com, and read the related press release by DNA Operator. Visit JoikuMetrix sub-section of our site for solution information and read the JoikuMetrix Solution presentation here.

MoHotSpot users always have their personal WiFi hotspot with them and can therefore make calls and surf the net at the same time. Together with work colleagues, friends or family members, they can access the internet via the mobile phone with 3G speed (UMTS/HSDPA) – without the need for cables, USB sticks or PC cards. MBD is launching MoHotSpot on the market jointly with Finnish company Joikusoft. The application will be free of charge for customers of partner company RadiCens and its MoobiCent and MoobiAir brands, as well as for customers of MoBlack.
For all other mobile internet users, MoHotSpot is obtainable from the new application platform www.mospot.de for a special price of just €12.95 during the introductory period up to June 1, 2009.
Effective immediately, MoBlack provides the accompanying tariff for MoHotSpot for a 6- or 24-month period at €29.95 per month. The hardware price for the Nokia E51 provided by MoBlack ranges from €149 for the 24-month tariff to €249 for the 6-month tariff. Surfing together via WiFi: MoHotSpot is the next generation of mobile internet
MoHotSpot is the ideal solution for mobile workers and work groups and for individual use at home or on the move. The obvious advantage is that customers always have a mobile phone with them and can access the internet with their laptops this way. MoHotSpot users simply switch on their mobiles, set up their Private Mobile Hotspot, and start surfing with a dedicated device such as a notebook or netbook.
Secure connection thanks to WEP encryption
With MoHotSpot, users are provided not only with a personal but with a secure WiFi hotspot. Internet access can be encrypted via WEP. A glance at the software menu indicates which other device is currently connected via WiFi. Compared with public hotspots, for example WiFi in hotels, airports or railroad stations, MoHotSpot offers a much more secure and also a much more reasonably priced connection.
As Hans-Peter Eitel, founder and Managing Director of MBD explains: "MoHotSpot is the first application on our new platform MoSpot. This solution simplifies mobile internet usage still further, since users can make calls and surf the net simultaneously with their mobile phones. This is truly next-generation mobile internet – and it also offers greater security than public hotspots."
In collaboration with Finnish company Joikusoft, MBD is marketing the software in Germany under the brand name MoHotSpot powered by JoikuSpot. Tom Ojala, CEO and founder of Joikusoft, stresses: "Both firms are pursuing the same goals and we are among the first movers as far as mobile internet is concerned. The network should be readily available everywhere and for an affordable price. That's precisely what we're seeking to achieve with MoHotSpot and the innovative JoikuSpot software."
The Future of MoHotSpot
Development of the MoSpot brand continues. In the future MBD will be offering its customers not only the Private Mobile Hotspot but also additional mobile services and applications. Hans-Peter Eitel adds: "MoSpot will be our main platform for mobile broadband services which add significant value and customer experience with applications and services for mobile phones."
The internet connection is not limited to laptops: MoHotSpot powered by JoikuSpot can also be connected to "fashion" devices, such as iPods, internet tablets, netbooks and digital cameras with WLAN interfacing. It features the Symbian OS platform, the global leader with a 50 percent market share, and provides a private and secure mobile internet hotspot solution. Users have complete control over who can access their wireless internet connection with the MoSpot access point.
