JoikuSpot WiFi tethering roadmap

There has been lots of questions of future platform support for JoikuSpot. Thus, we chose to open up a bit of what is in the pipeline near term in our WiFi Tethering domain.

JoikuSpot WiFi HotSpot today supports S60 3rd Ed and 5th Ed WiFi tethering as well as Maemo (N900) WiFi tethering. We have also a partnered and comarketed product for Windows Mobile WiFi tethering in our JoikuShop AppStore.

We reccently also added iPad WiFi tethering support to JoikuSpot product. This means you can tether your iPad using WiFi with your Nokia N900 or S60 phone.

Next in the pipeline will be JoikuSpot releases for Meego WiFi tethering and S60 v3 (Nokia N8) WiFi tethering. Also JoikuBoost release with USB modem support is soon to be unveiled.

Regarding Android WiFi tethering, RIM WiFi tethering and iPhone WiFi tethering, these are interesting platforms and should such releases be published by Joiku, the best way to know is to subscribe for our email newsletter for product and platform updates.

Joikusoft announces the next wave of mobile WiFi Tethering by extending JoikuSpot Mobile 3G HotSpotting to new Linux based Maemo devices from Nokia.

The new JoikuSpot Linux Edition contains enriched features such as Speed Measurement to allow users to accurately see their mobile internet connection speed. Users see exactly the mobile data speed they get with their mobile broadband subscription.

JoikuSpot is designed to be End-to-End and Operator friendly, and adds to the Operator 3G data ARPU. Solution allows Operator measurement of JoikuSpot user profile and data traffic volumes, and produces graphical real-time reports of actual mobile broadband usage from JoikuSpotting. In addition, roaming detection, IMSI range restrictions per operator definition, server originated user updates and full operator branding and feature customization may be applied. More than 30% of JoikuSpot users upgrade to flat rate mobile data with their operator after starting to use JoikuSpot for mobile Internet. Joikusoft has already rolled out 6 operator-branded solutions for mobile 3G WiFi Tethering, and comes pre-loaded in newer Nokia devices such as N97 and N97 Mini. The JoikuSpot experience is now extended to include Nokia Maemo devices.

Using fring + iPod touch + JoikuSpot Premium at 67 5’29”N, 27 0’43”E

Joiku-team had a small break last weekend in Lapland, Northern Finland. No fixed wifi hotspots around, not even neighbors within 5 km radius. JoikuSpot Light 2.1 has been released. It fixes the Bluetooth problem for external GPS devices. If you are using Nokia E65 or similar without internal GPS and you have no external GPS device, please turn the GPS to OFF under Settings.

You can find the Settings by pressing Options -> Stop -> Options -> Settings -> GPS Positioning -> No.

JoikuSpot Light goes out of Beta, the production release is here!

JoikuSpot Light is published for FREE downloads. JoikuSpot is no longer in beta, and the software is 100% free and stripped away from trials.

JoikuSpot Light comes with security and encryption, and allows surfing the web using HTTP and HTTPS protocols. JoikuSpot Light also has a new location element inside, and users with GPS enabled phones can see their exact HotSpot location from the Google Maps in the first web landing page and discover services and businesses near by.

JoikuSpot Light is distributed on “as is” basis and works with all Nokia S60 3rd Edition phones with WLAN chipset and latest firmware.

“We see WLAN as by far the easiest way to connect to web, and with JoikuSpot users can carry the WLAN HotSpot in their mobile phone and use internet where-ever they may be”, says Tom Ojala, the Founder and Chairman of Joikusoft. “We wish to liberate the mobile internet so that mobile HotSpots can spread everywhere, and offering this for free is our contribution to the mobile community”, he continues.

The Beta version is no longer in distribution, and the beta was set as a 90-day trial simply to avoid beta level software from spreading after the production release was available.

JoikuSpot Light Beta 1.2 with encryption released

Its NOT April Fools Day joke: JoikuSpot Light Beta 1.2 has been revealed.

JoikuSpot Light Beta 1.2 release notes:

-Encryption support with WEP including automatic 128bit key generator
-Battery threshold shutting down the client when battery level is too low (adjustable)
-Default Access point can be set
-Support for secure SSH tunnels with Putty
-90 days free trial. JoikuSpot Light will stay FREE also in the future. We shall later on introduce new Premium version with small payment. Naturally Premium will include even more advanced features.

All settings can be adjusted after JoikuSpot is stopped, just press the Stop key.

NAT will still take some time. Anyway we are closing the final release. Due to this JoikuSpot Light Beta 1.2 has 90 days expiry time. This is a free trial and JoikuSpot Light will stay free also in the future. We just dont want betas around when the final one comes out

Please uninstall the previous version before updating your JoikuSpot. Just go Tools --> Application management on your Nokia phone. Also check out the updated User Guide for easy setup of encryption + other advanced features.
